Mosque Attacks in Christchurch: A Time to Stand Against Hatred

Friday 15 March 2019

JDI condemns all violence and is particularly horrified by attacks on people at prayer as occurred in Christchurch today. We send condolences to the injured and the families of those ruthlessly slaughtered by extremists.

We call on all leaders to condemn this trend unconditionally.

Deluded perpetrators pick up cues from public figures who inspire these attacks. Ethno-Nationalists have to bear some of this responsibility. Unless we vehemently oppose the hate-speech emanating from political leadership, we will never be safe.

There are inciters and perpetrators in every community. There are targets and victims in every community. JDI calls on all its constituents to stand against incitement and hate speech and to oppose provocation to hatred and terror wherever it occurs.

Silence is not an option.
